THE NIGERIAN COVID-19

 There you go sir. I restrained myself from reacting to Dr. Chinedu's write ups on the doubts by Nigerians on COVID -19 for a good number of reasons. First among the reasons is that I am an opinion moulder. My opinions on national issues matter a lot.

Truth is yes, there is COVID in Nigeria, evidently so. But our politicians are treating us like fools, hence the general apathy and lethargy. 

When Ebola was in Nigeria, we were told the name of the index case and how he came in. With COVID, we know nothing about his or her name. What we know is that he is Italian. We all know the nurse who died fighting Ebola. We know her family. We were shown on national TV her burial rites. With COVID, we have never seen any of such.

Also take a look at the following: a supposed index case was arrested in Makurdi for telling the press that she was negative. She has since been locked up. For six weeks now, no one has told us if she has died where they locked her up for lying . 


if she tested positive as the government wants us to believe, why is she still alive in her detention?  Why are the journalists who interviewed her not testing positive? God is such a wonderful God to Nigerians.

A popular pharmacist in Anambra was arrested and quarantined for testing positive to COVID. In his isolation centre, he addressed a press conference alleging that he was being used for political gains. The Anambra state commissioner for information, a former colleague of mine, refuted saying the man was mentally imbalanced as a result of what he has suffered from COVID and we should disregard him. 

The man has since gone home. None of the journalists who interviewed the man who was positive and called a press conference has tested positive. And we know they did not wear protective gears to the interview. Wonderful God.


We hear government is spending billions of naira on palliatives for citizens. We have never seen nor met anyone who says, "yes, I am a Beneficiary."

They say they are spending millions to feed school children who are at home. Can anyone here say his or her own children at home have benefited from such largesse? 

They announced in Abuja that they are going from house to house in the FCT to distribute palliatives. Since then I have not been locking gate in case the FCT minister and his team decide to visit me unannounced with my own ration. When they come, I will tell you. But I don't believe them. 

They told us Atiku's son tested positive and slept and danced with ladies at a night club in abuja. Only he tested positive. His wife and children nko? Wonderful Allah.

Governor El rufai announced he tested positive and went into self isolation. Two weeks later he announced he tested negative. There is no testing centre in Kaduna. NCDC said they never tested the governor. Who tested him, where, when??? Alahu Akbar.

In other parts of the world, we see COVID patients struggling for breath. In Nigeria, COVID patients stage protests at isolation centres for lack of welfare. So are they so healthy to stage protests? Nigerians are known to be resilient even on their dying beds.

In some isolation centres we have seen COVID patients complain and  escape from isolation centres. And they have COVID? But they are healthy enough yo escape?

Last month, there was a scandal in one of the isolation centres in Abuja. Sex scandal. Male and female COVID patients were frolicking. Government said they felt embarrassed and then realized the urgent need to separate males from female isolation centres. 

COVID patients are healthy to engage in that type of physical and emotional exercise without observing social and physical distancing?? Were they spouses?/No. They only met at the isolation centre and fell in love. No wonder, Jesus wept when Lazarus died. 

We have never seen any of the wives of the big men who said they tested positive also testing positive. This Nigerian COVID must be discriminatory. It takes only the men and ignore their wives. Lucky women.

Last week, Chief Raymond Dokpesi owner of Raypower FM announced they said he tested positive and he went to the hospital in Gwagwalada Abuja. He said they administered chloroquine on him and he tested negative. He then asked in a video that went viral, what are the differences between symptoms of malaria and COVID. We are still waiting for answers.

Everyday the number keeps increasing. We never see the dead being buried. In Italy we see ambulances taking away corpses every now and then. But in Nigeria, baaaabu

They imposed a curfew in Nigeria. Stay indoors between 8pm and 6am. Go to work between 6am and close at 3pm. 

So, our own type of COVID moves around only at night?. Made in Nigeria COVID. 

Yes, there is COVID in Nigeria from all indications, but citizens no longer trust their leaders. We don't believe them because of the too many liars surrounding the pandemic.

Fifteen Chinese doctors came to Nigeria six weeks ago to help us fight COVID. Last week, Nigeria's minister for health said he did not know their whereabouts. Today, the minister for interior said they did not come at the instance of Nigerian government but to work for a Chinese company, CCECC based in Abuja.

I am happy that Oga Charlie is disheartened at the barefaced lies Nigerian ministers tell. You just watched NTA news and you are so annoyed, abi?. Metu lu eyi eka nwele

There is COVID in Nigeria. But it is not the same type you have elsewhere. Our own is made in Nigeria. It could be more contagious than the type you know. 

Will I be angry that Nigerians are getting increasingly disillusioned with their government and saying they are not sure of this COVID anymore? NO. 

Is there COVID in Nigeria, yes. Is our government telling us the truth about it? NOOOOO.

NWOBODO NOW A DEPUTY INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu, has appointed six new deputy inspectors-general of police.

According to a report by Premium Times, the new DIGs, who were elevated from assistant inspectors-general, are Usman Tilli Abubakar, who joined the police from Kebbi State in February 1986; Abdulmaji Ali, who joined the police from Niger State in February 1986; Taiwo Frederick Lakanu, who joined the police from Lagos State in February 1986 and Godwin Nwobodo, who joined the police from Enugu State in 1984.

The remaining two new DIGs who were elevated from the rank of police commissioners are Ogbizi Michael, former Abia State police commissioner, and Ibrahim Lamorde, a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who hails from Adamawa State.

Mr Lakanu was the Force Secretary until his appointment.

The new DIGs were named on Monday morning, police sources said.

Their respective portfolios would be announced later on Monday by the Police Service Commission.

Their elevation comes a day after Mr Adamu retired seven DIGs who were his senior in order to pave way for the constitution of a new management team with whom he could work comfortably.

The affected officers were Maigari Dikko, the DIG in charge of finance and administration and Habila Joshak, the DIG in charge of operations.

The remaining five DIGs are Emmanuel Inyang, information and communications technology; Agboola Oshodi-Glover, logistics and supply; Mohammed Katsina, research and planning; Sani Mohammed, training and development; and Peace Ibekwe-Abdallah, federal criminal investigation and intelligence.

The seven DIGs and eight assistant inspectors-general were identified as having joined the police before Mr Adamu, who was appointed on January 15 after the former IG Ibrahim Idris was retired as he attained 60 years.

The seven police chiefs’ departure was in furtherance of the convention that recommends the retirement of senior police chiefs when an officer junior to them in service or lower in rank is appointed to lead the institution.

When Mr Idris was appointed IG in 2016, more than 20 DIGs and AIGs were compelled to retire from service to enable him constitute his management team.

Mr Adamu has now followed the tradition, which has been criticised as wasteful and demoralising because of huge resources the nation had spent on the vast knowledge the senior officers had acquired over the years.

 My Compatriots, we thank you for accepting our invitation to this turning point in Nigerian history. We are here to announce to all our countrymen our intention to win the 2015 Presidential Elections on the platform of the National Conscience Party. Our move is consequent upon our conviction that CHANGE is necessary in Nigeria now.
The dysfunction of almost all sectors in Nigeria under the current class of political rulers is very clear to all. With uncontrolled Corruption, Unemployment, Insecurity, Bad roads, poor Healthcare, low life expectancy, weak Education, flawed Elections, declining national Productivity, mass Poverty and epileptic Power, it has been a very sad story since 1999. This is why we propose CHANGE in Nigeria now. The general elections present a good opportunity for democratic CHANGE.
Currently, published reports indicate that, Nigeria has the lowest public power per capita in Africa. Power generation has remained just over 3,000 MW since 1999 even after we have spent ~$51Billion on power, since then. South African per capita power is about 60 times Nigerian per capita power. The 2013 WHO report shows life expectancy in Nigeria to be about 49 years for men, one of the lowest in the whole world. ‘Enough is Enough’.
Nigeria can CHANGE this 2015. From wrong to Right; insecurity to Security; unemployment to full Employment; evil to Good; mass deceit to Veracity; indiscipline to Discipline; under-development to Development; darkness to Light; abuse of power to Service; violence to Peace, hypocrisy to good Example; injustice to Justice; corruption to Integrity. This is the CHANGE we propose and wish to announce today.
The most critical and first step to achieve this CHANGE is to CHANGE the current political rulers that led us to this national predicament. The coming general elections present the appropriate opportunities for us to effect this CHANGE. To drive the CHANGE, Nigeria may need a Young, Strong, Articulate and Ethical, world-class engineering and management Professional as President.
The 10-care programme of our National Conscience Party will ensure the ‘Abolition of Poverty’. Our ‘Accelerated Development Agenda’ outlines the strategies to achieve these. Waste and Corruption can be controlled.
Our NCP ’10-Care Programme’ includes: Employment, Food, Health, Housing, Education, Water, Electricity, Transportation, Telecommunications and Security Care.
In addition, the electorate must see the need for good governance and elect younger, stronger, more professional and ethical candidates to serve Nigeria better.
• Our NCP government will reduce fuel price by improved domestic crude oil refining.
• We will increase minimum wage by reducing maximum wage, while maintaining the total wage bill.
• We will use about $9B to double power generation, transmission and distribution, in two and half years.
A proper evaluation of candidates based on Vision, Vigour, Integrity, Competence and national Acceptability, will reveal the best candidate.
We do not need an old, frail and sectional candidate or a clueless, corrupt, weak and ineffective candidate. A new breed, world-class engineering and management professional may be better to address our security problems and infrastructural inadequacies.
The National Conscience Party is distinct as it is the oldest party and it was founded by the late colossus, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, SAM, in 1994, out of the popular struggles we waged against, abuse of power, injustice and lawlessness. Our commitment to the principles of Integrity, Justice and development, clearly make us distinct.
We will lead by example.
In security, we will improve Intelligence, Surveillance, Response Time and Capacity. We will restore the pride and the effectiveness of our armed forces. We will robustly confront and expel Boko Haram from our territory if they do not surrender after a stern warning. We will correct the social weaknesses that result from bad governance that led to the Boko Haram insurgency and increased crime rate all over Nigeria.
The Police will be made more professional and the NSCDC will be motivated, trained and equipped for improved performance.
We know and hear of unimaginable corruption and ineffectiveness. We hear of $20B missing oil revenue, we hear of one of the highest ‘Road fatalities per year’ in the world, we hear of crude oil theft, we know of the kidnapped Chibok girls, we know of subsidy fraud, we hear of six legislators suspending over 20 of their colleagues, we know of our Governors and Ministers going abroad for medical care, we know of our ~70% poverty rate (despite our national wealth), we know of our national debt and looming debt crisis, etc.
We know we can do better with good governance. That is what we in the National Conscience Party (NCP) promise our Nigerian people. I accept to lead Nigeria with your support to a new dawn if elected President in 2015.

My certificates consumed by fire, Sambo tells INEC

Vice-President Namadi SamboAhead of the 2015 general elections, Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has told the Independent National Electoral Commission that his Bachelors and Masters degrees certificates in Architecture from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, have been consumed by fire.

Sambo, who is the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, made the declaration in the documents he filed with INEC and displayed on the commission’s office in Abuja although the details of the fire that consumed the certificates were not given.

Sambo’s papers were received and stamped in INEC headquarters between December 10 and 18, 2014.

The VP’s declaration was validated by two letters from the ABU, a copy of which was obtained by The PUNCH on Sunday.

The first letter, signed by one Alhassan Garba for the institution’s registrar under the title, “To Whom it may Concern: Mohammed Namani Sambo,” read, “I certify that the above-named person having completed an approved course of study and passed the prescribed examinations was awarded the Bachelor of Science (Architecture) with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) in 1976 by the Senate of this University. His original certificate got burnt. Please treat his case in view of this certification. Thank you.”

The second letter, also signed by Garba for the ABU registrar, read, “I certify that the above-named person having completed an approved course of study and passed the prescribed examinations was awarded the Master of Science (Architecture) on May 25, 1978 by the Senate of this University. His original certificate got burnt. Please treat his case in view of this certification. Thank you.”

Meanwhile, indications have emerged that only 13 political parties would field presidential candidates in the 2015 elections.

The parties and their candidates are the People Democratic Party, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan; the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); Action Alliance, Tunde Anifowose-Kelani; Kowa Party, Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya; United Progressives Party; Chief Chekwas Okorie; and National Conscience Party, Chief Martin Onovo.

Others are African Democratic Congress, Dr. Ibrahim Nani; United Democratic Party, Godson Okoye; Alliance for Democracy, Rafiu Salau; Peoples Party of Nigeria, Kelvin Alagoa; Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, Alhaji Ganiyu Oseni; African Peoples Alliance, Alhaji Adebayo Ayeni; and Hope Democratic Party, Ambrose Owuru.

On the occasion of theWorld AIDS day, 2009

Dear Compatriots,
Every year, the 1st of December is celebrated globally as World AIDS Day. Since 1988, this day has been set aside for increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education about HIV/AIDS.
The reality of HIV/AIDS can no longer be contested by any rational person. The latest world statistics show that 33.4million people, including 2.1million children, are living with HIV/AIDS, there being 2.7million new infections in 2008 alone. About half of the HIV infections occur before the age of 25 years and kill the victims before they are 35 years. In other words, HIV/AIDS virtually eliminates our youths, our vibrant work force. Overall, 2million people died globally of HIV/AIDS in 2008 and the world has lost 25million people to HIV/AIDS since its discovery in 1981.
Sub-Saharan Africa currently bears 67% of the global HIV/AIDS burden with HIV prevalence rates of up to 23.9% in Botswana and 18% in South Africa.

In Nigeria , 2.6million people, both adults and children, are living with HIV/AIDS. This translates to approximately 20% of the global HIV burden even though Nigeria represents barely 2% of the World’s population.

In Keffi, 9.1% of women attending antenatal clinic as well as 8.6% of prospective blood donors are HIV positive.

Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner, transfusion with infected blood, sharing of sharp objects between infected and uninfected persons and transmission from an infected mother to her unborn or breast-feeding baby remain the major means of transmission of HIV. These are fueled by ignorance, poverty, illiteracy and reckless lifestyles. Abstinence from unprotected sexual intercourse, being faithful to a single, uninfected sexual partner, correct and consistent use of condoms, avoidance of transfusion with unscreened blood, avoidance of sharing of sharp objects and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) remain the major means of prevention of HIV transmission.

The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day is UNIVERSAL ACCESS AND HUMAN RIGHTS. It draws attention to the need for people living with HIV/AIDS anywhere in the world to have unhindered access HIV prevention, treatment, care and support, recognizing this as fundamental human rights.
Frequently, we infringe on the fundamental human rights of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs). Discrimination and stigmatization in whatever form against PLWHAs constitute an infringement on their fundamental human rights and these in turn hinder access to prevention, treatment, care and support. We must respect and protect PLWHAs.

We are hereby called upon to join the fight against HIV/AIDS. Let us provide unhindered access to information on prevention to those who are uninfected and unhindered access to treatment, care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
