*THE MARCH 2022 NOL/PPFN MEDICAL OUTREACH IN NENWE: THE POST- MORTEM ANALYSIS REPORT*: 

_How it came about, what was achieved, chronic underutilization of the hospital, and  Recommendation for rejuvenated Nenwe Cottage Hospital Center_ 

*HOW IT CAME ABOUT*  It was all by happenstance, inspired by the idea initially floated by Mrs. Ijeoma J.Ekeh (nee Ezeh), a member of the NOL family platforms upon her return from a service training  (Masters degree  Community Health)in the Netherlands. 

 When the chance to host the March 2022 Medical Outreach in Nenwe became open, NOL Board then learned that it had *less than ten days* to concretize feasible plans to enable it happen or risk losing the chance to other competing communities. To further complicate the matters for the NOL BOARD, _the platform was within the same time frame, hosting a fundraiser for a *security house to be built by the gate* of the Nenwe Cottage Hospital Center._ The prospect of losing the chance to leverage the PPFN open slot for the service of the Community was merely starting down, the NOL BOARD of Administrators rallied and quickly put together the NOL/PPFN Medical Outreach Committee. The Committee, with no viable option for soliciting for external funding support *had to rely on itself to come up with the seed money needed to take care of some of the basic logistic requirements for a successful outreach such as this*. The Committee and NOL Board of Administrators are so thankful for the financial and volunteer support that eventually came from *our NOL members*, and Community partners such as the *Emudo Nenwe Ambassadors Association, ENAA*

 *WHAT WAS ACHIEVED*        The two- day, back-to-back (Thursday, March 10, & Friday, March 11, 2022) Community Medical Outreach program at the Nenwe Cottage Hospital Center was, by every account, a huge success.A total of 462 *documented outpatient* attendees showed up at the event in the course of the two days and in the following population spread:         

*Day 1*:  213 patients were seen by the health service providers. Of this number, 47 males were screened for *prostate cancer*, and 72 females were screened for *cervical cancer*. The rest were screened for various health issues including HIV.

*Day 2*: 249 documented new out patients were attended to by the NOL/PPFN team of health service providers, an increase over the Day 1 event, suggesting an uptick in popularity of the services provided. Included in this number were 62 males who requested and were screened for prostate cancer, and 91 women that requested, and were screened for cervical cancer. The rest of the day 2 population presented various other health needs, and were attended to by the team of health service providers, according to the register.          

 As was expected, the clinical conditions flagged by then i healthcare providers varied in their levels or degrees of seriousness - some received stabilizing treatment, while referrals were arranged for the rest of the population at each of the 2 day events.        

 *UNDERUTILIZATION OF THE COTTAGE HOSPITAL CENTER* : 

The organizers of the NOL/PPFN Medical Outreach noted with concern the reluctance of the locals to patronize the primary health center preferring to seek medical service, when needed, outside this State University Teaching Hospital-affiliated Center. Through live interviews of a cross section of the community the reasons for the underutilization came in different flavors of complexity. However, to help eliminate one of the barriers to full capacity utilisations of the hospital Center, the NOL/ PPFN team had to pay, for all attendees, the hospital Center requested patient cards. The payments were made to encourage recurring needed use of the hospital as a first line of contact by the Community residents in search of health care services. But the long term, and medium term solutions to the problems are much more than payment for the patient card.   

 *RECOMMENDATION FOR  REJUVENATED NENWE COTTAGE HOSPITAL MEDICAL CENTER*  

As a practical solution to most of the hinderances to achieving full capacity utilization of the Cottage Hospital, the report strongly recommends an *overhaul or creation of a local management for the hospital that would be charged with direct day-to-day running of the  hospital*. This management team, to be effective and responsive to the needs of the Community, *must co-opt members of the Community who are well suited to serve as advocates of the hospital and the Nenwe Community*.

MEDICAL OUTREACH IN NENWE

PPFN PARTNERS WITH  NOL FOR CRITICAL HEALTHCARE DELIVERY SERVICE IN NENWE
 In continuation with our policy and principles in fostering, encouraging

and hosting community development projects,  the NOL is pleased to formally announce the first of a two- part annual Medical Outreach Program planned for our Nenwe Town in collaboration with PPFN. 
The second (more elaborate) instalment of the program is conditionally slated for the month of August.
The following Medical Tests & Screenings will be offered:
1. Hepatitis test
2. Prostate test
3. Blood pressure check
4. Breast examination
5. Cervical cancer screening
6. HIV screening
7. Health education  & counselling

  
Date: Thursday 10th  & Friday 11th  March 2022.
Venue: Nenwe Cottage Hospital.
Time: 8:00am

The importance of these tests and Screenings for interested members of our community cannot be over-emphasized.
As a platform for community mobilization, NOL urges all other stakeholders in the community, particularly the PGs, religious organization leaders, & leaders of other grassroots organizations to rally to this cause.

NOL EULOGY ......LATE MAZI POLYCARP TOTUS UGWUEKE

WHEN THE DEAD COULD NOT STAY DUMB THE ETERMENT OF LATE MAZI POLYCARP TOTUS UGWUEKE

"He came to us in the manner of a meteorite". 

For the vast majority of the members of the NOL forum who did not know him before he made his colorful entrance into the forum, that was the aggregate shock reaction on learning the incredulous reality of his sudden passing to the great beyond in the first weeks of the New Year. 

Late Mazi POLYCARP TOTUS UGWUEKE during his time at the NOL FORUM was very active in elevating the information available on the platform as entertaining, as they were informative. And that is just to put it most conservatively.

 Indeed, he was a trailblazer, a self-motivator. For instance, at the time he joined the forum there were already a number of periodic publications or posts on the forum with religious bent including the "Doctrine & Faith". With his creative mind, he found a way to carve out a niche for his  particular brand of religious education and retreat: He embarked on a daily calendar serialization of the Catholic Saints. He was nose-dived into it with unparalleled devotion. Yet, he still found a way of making his daily publication interesting to non Catholics -  he introduced the saints, each of them, by their service records, as evidently a service to humanity. No one taught him that. He was self-taught.

Late Mazi Ugwueke uncannily found a riveting way of snappy discourse on  the works of James Hadley Chase, citing relevant titles to back up his position or line of argument in many of the heated but entertaining debates he waged on various topics here on the forum. 

But on Thursday, just last Thursday, February the 10th, when his remains were buried in his beloved home of Nenwe, it was evident that he lived a life that touched many people positively, gauging by the strength and volume of the people who came to pay their respect to their "man of the people"

In his lifetime, casting a glance at such a lifeless body about to be buried,  he would have reached for his rich repertoire of James Hadley Chase titles and returned with the most appropriate for the situation: "The dead stays dumb".

But at his own funeral the mourners (many if whom travelled from afar to be there for him, as he would've for them) came to defy that prediction of James Hadley Chase: This dead could not stay dumb.

His legacy of love and community service live on, boldly.

The NOL Board of Administrators would like to express the appreciation of all those who extended their sympathy and condolences to the family, and friends of the late Mazi POLYCARP UGWUEKE.  In particular,  we  deeply appreciated the sacrifices made by Dr. Aaron Okorie, an Administrator and Board member,  and Prof Silas Nwenya  Director Of  Language and Culture Dept of the Nenweonlie University to be physically present at the funeral.

Mrs Amaka Alinta Oriaku celebrates Christmas With Nenwe women

 Jubilation as Mrs Amaka Alinta Oriaku celebrates Christmas with 600 women from the 4 villages in Nenwe, shared wrappers, bags of rice, groundnut oil, Indomie and buckets.

Children were not left out as they also got shoes and towels.

On yearly basis she carries out this program using her foundation (Amaka Alinta Oriaku Foundation) to give to the poor.

Amaka Alinta is a born giver who believe in contributing to make others successful and happy in life. 

Her siblings came back from US and Uk to support this year’s programe.

Philanthropist Mrs. Amaka Alinta-Oriaku is a responsible wife, mother, mentor and role model to many young people. She is from Emudo Nenwe, married to Hon. Kingsley Oriaku. 

She is a member Enugu State Judicial Service Commission.

THE 2021-YEAR-END REVIEW:  A YEAR MARKED BY RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF THE GOOD OF ALL.                                            MAPPING THE NEAR                                                FUTURE

The NOL Board of Administrators would like to congratulate our community across the stable for another year of roaring success in its central vision of mobilization of our people to respond to the challenges of modernity per the needs of the community. 

The Board acknowledges that the core principles of its vision came under strains at several need points in the course of the year in review. The NOL Board was in the clear when it made the decision not to directly use any of its platforms for the purposes of raising funds for any budgetary titles. That unsurprisingly went against the contemporary run of events in the public space. The Board believes in the innovative idea of reliance on the transparent use of the abundant human resources within and without the membership of the NOL family in rising to the challenges of Nenwe. Pursuant to this objective, the Board further believes that our best suited human resources can only be scanned out from a broad diversity of our population unhindered by restrictive admission requisites. 

Unlike NOL  affiliate organizations, there's no forms to complete, no registration fees to pay, and no annual dues to think about before enrolment in any of NOL operating platforms including at the NOL University. In most cases prospective members are just required to be of Nenwe ancestry and preferably deep-seated interest in working together for the  upliftment of ourselves, &  Nenwe as a community. The Board remains unwavering to its commitment to the good of all Nenwe (Nenwe first doctrine), as a policy and politics.

In that frame of operation The Board would first like to report to you, our virtual community members, and other interested public, some of the unresolved problems facing all of us as the curtain is drawn on 2021. These issues will continue to be called into your attention as  carry-overs into the new year:

1) Permanent fix for the cyclical vandalization of public infrastructural utilities, including suspected arson on the local Police Station.

2) Continuing Scrutiny of the quality of work and upgrading at the Boys High School Nenwe.

3) Continuing Logistic Support to peaceful resolutions in the efforts to fill the outstanding open seats in the traditional administration in each of the  four Autonomous Communities or Kingdoms of Nenwe. 

4)Conclusions and resolutions on the Chidalu Ugwueke saga.

... AND NOW, WITH YOUR SOLID SUPPORT,  HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE WERE ABLE TO GET DONE BY WORKING TOGETHER:

1) NEW PROGRAM AT THE NOL UNIVERSITY: 

The affiliation with the International educational services. Under this program the university is continuously seeking financial aids in the form of scholarships to avail our interested members with possible further educational opportunities overseas, in the first instance, with minimum of risks.

2) SUPPORT FOR"THE DETAILS"

This us a weekender,  in-studio live -interview of business, academic and political headliners in Nigeria. The program was conceived, and anchored by one of us Mr. MARTIN OKAFOR.  Since inception NOL aptly adopted it as a potent opportunity to expand the reach, and create wider awareness of the program and the good name of Nenwe, to better reposition it for state and national conversations. The link up with Mr.Ndubisi Ebube Aniobi and Mr. Iyke Degreatest Udeh  remains our dream team.

3) THE INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDIES IN  NENWE DIALECT & CULTURE OF THE NOLU. 

With the Head of department and director of studies  Prof. Silas Nwenya concluding his sabbatical leave , the Institute is still thriving & doing  well with the addition of the 'volunteer'  Uche Mbah to the faculty. It's worthwhile to pause, and take notice that it has grown from a department to an Institute within the university.  The NOL Board remains grateful to the participants for their enthusiasm for the elevation, and preservation of Nenwe dialect, Culture and People.

4) THE ILLUSTROUS SEARCH AND RECOVERY OF ONE OF OUR OWN.  

When late Mary Mbah (nee Olovo Ali) was reported missing after attending the end-of-year meeting of the Women's Wing of the N.I U. Lagos Branch was reported to the forum by the Matron of the Union Branch, Mrs. Geraldine Ekwe (nee Chukwubike), the alarm and anxiety in all of us was palpable. But it also brought out the best in us in rallying for our own, and the love for ourselves. The search, and recovery was total, and coordinated between Mrs. Ekwe, the Moderator Charles O Chukwubike, NOL, Manzi Clement Ebere, Dr. C.O Oleh and the family. Sadly, even with those efforts, Mrs. Mary Mbah, couldn't be found alive. She had since been buried in her husband's native home in Nenwe.

5)GRASSROOTS MOBILIZATION FOR VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISES IN NENWE. 

With the inspiration and  support drawn from NOL, the PGs or their substitutes lent great hands in bringing the registration information to the doorsteps of our people back at home, without getting embroiled in political partisanship. The NOL Board is very grateful to Hon. Osondu Eze, PG, Amoji Town Hall, Elder Linus Mbah,   Chairman, NDA, Chief Gabriel Ejim, former PG, Amoji Nenwe. Their efforts are ongoing in sensitising our people for the most participation in the political  process. 

One of the revolving facilitator roles of the NOL is  its unwritten affiliation with all the other organizations with a variety of service orientations & offerings for the development of Nenwe. The NOL readily grants these various organizations unfettered access to the use of its facilities as the marketplace for membership recruitment, program advertisements, and as sounding board for their projects including solicitations for expertise and technical know-how. Best known among these organizations, just to mention only 3, and their star accomplishments in the year under review include:

6) NIF & ITS MEDICAL MISSION: 

The  Abuja based Nenwe Integrity Foundation, NIF, recorded a huge success when  it undertook the delivery of primary health-care to the the Nenwe Community early in the Fall, 2021. The NOL Board applauds their continuing charitable programs, and projects aimed at contributing to positive changes in Nenwe.

7) THE ENAA  - NOW AT CUSP OF RESOLVING THE FORMERLY INTRACTABLE POLITICAL POLARIZATION IN EMUDO NENWE. 

Deriving, in part, from the good efforts & the unity of purpose among Emudo Nenwe people around the world; and the inspiration from NOL Board of Administrators, the Emudo Nenwe Ambassadors Association, ENAA, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, Abuja Nigeria, as Emudo Global Community Association invested a lot of financial, & human resources capital to help streamline, and restore normalcy in the traditional,  grassroots administration of the Emudo Kingdom. Additionally, and working in tandem under the "fierce urgency of now", members of this 2-year-old, worldwide organization have taken various initiatives to assist with enabling students, and schools in Emudo Nenwe attain higher educational accomplishments. And the Association is even planning for more in the form of physical infrastructural development of the Kingdom.

8) NDA &  THE INSTALLATION OF SPEED BUMPS ALONG MAJOR ROADS IN NENWE. 

The Nenwe Diaspora Association, NDA, came into being at the height of insecurity in Nenwe Community. In the year under review the NDA  carried out ambitious projects involving the construction of speed humps at intervals along some major roads traversing the Community. This humanitarian, and development service has, as envisaged, helped reduce incidents of road mishaps in the areas covered by these bumps.

9) NOLU BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE PROJECT

The bridge to the future project of the NOL University, NOLU, is a mentorship program where the NOLU expertly matches a mentee with a mentor, approximately aligned for optimal chances of succes. The aim of this program of the University was to help some of our aspiring community members overcome initial, often encountered hurdles, in a timely manner, on the road to blossom in their chosen vocation by pairing them with members of the faculty and/ or community with cognizant experience. The field of expertise is quite wide,  not only academic but also trading and handcraft making  and other vocations in between. 

MAPPING FOR THE NEAR FUTURE.

The NOL Board plans to, while continuing to stress on the existing , ongoing projects in the upcoming year,  have in place an annual dollar-denominated cash prize & plaque for the best grassroots leadership in Nenwe. Each winner would have shown extraordinary skills in bringing about any of the following in the community: peace, civic engagement,  mass participation in the political process, solving the problem posed by hunger, eradication of adult illiteracy, primary health-care awareness and practice, access to clean drinking water, etc. The winner/s will be announced at year-end award ceremony. Presently NOL  is soliciting for a generous sponsor of the cash prize, and in whose memorial it would serve.

Once again, The NOL Board of Administrators profoundly would like to thank you for your abiding interests in all we do. We do, however recognize, how much NOL depends on you, our community members, for  strength & for the continuation  on road of success. We value your inputs, particularly in terms of innovative, original ideas so as to cater for even more diverse, larger population of our people. Thank you.
