WHY DON'T WE GROW THESE CROPS

It bothers me a lot when some fundamental items become so scarce at home and everyone is crying and begging the northerners .

This was the case of cucumber until some Nenwe families in the 2000s were forced  to relocate at home by BH then they tried planting the crop .Bingo!.it grew very well at home ..Right now it will soon become one of our 'Nenwe  export' crops if the security agencies prevent the new wave of  Fulani herdsmen destructions anyway.

Now it is the *Onions* that has become gold to the southerner.Maybe we are waiting for another emergency to force us to plant them.

We are in a rain tropical area  blessed with different soils and altitudes therefore Capable of growing almost all sorts of crops. During the war when the North severed relationships with us we grew more *88) and "ahadja oghe ogologo* (denominated Biafran Beans ). This beans is now going into extinction  and will invariably affect the popular *igbagidi Nenwe* that people come from far to buy. You didn't  know this kwa?

Our soil right from Enugu to some parts of Nenwe some parts.of  upper lands of Mgbowo and Ndiagbor and Awgu will be good for these plants. I cannot say much about Oduma because of water logging of the soil. Agric specialists can say better.

However it is a plant that you can grow in your house inside sacks and buckets instead of crying because of Ndi ùgwù..  I planted two pepper 🌶️ plants in two differents pots on a balcony and had more pepper we needed in a family of 5 for the  two Consecutive years they were there . The same with onions. My temp  tenant from Nike planted *ogwume* (which is a weed  in Italy though) and had to give out some .

What I wonder and most people overseas wonder is what has happened to the hands of most of our people at home.

While growing up in Nenwe Carrots and onions were grown in Nenwe precisely at county by one *Charlie Okụkụ* . Charles okụkụ was the agric fellow of County sec.school that kept a poultry in the '60s which fed the students. He also planted these crops which we thought he used *magic ndi collage* (tech)  to grow at a altitude of HRH Ifeanatus home going towards the road to Obulorum but before  the lower lands and swamps near the ebọ that were always easily flooded and waterlogged. Anyone Enya ruru ali may remember this poultry and farms in the late 60s.

It's just a shame we always lose initiatives at home and find reasons through  inconceivable things, persons and situations.

I shall post on the Nenweonlie University methods how you can grow your own onions in Nenwe within 100 days.

Good morning.

SOME GOODWILL MESSAGES : NENWE WHO IS WHO FIRST EDITION BOOK PUBLICATION AND UNVEILING PART 1

SOME GOODWILL MESSAGES FROM NENWE WHATSAPP GROUPS ETC PART 1

GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM SILAS NWOHA, FORMER EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA.

To the glory of God, the Nenwe Who's Who is to be unveiled today. This endeavour is indeed, another milestone in Nenwe. The Who's Who captures the contributions of Nenwe people in various fields of endeavours. I'm particularly elated not just because I made the list but because our people are steadily putting our town on the map.   Looking back, I've every reason to thank God for my earthly journey so far. As everyone knows, I'm from one of the humblest homes in Nenwe. I was brought up in a home where daily living was a huge struggle.  I wish my mother were alive to hear or witness the profound story of her last child. Rising to the very peak of my career and becoming the first Igbo man to be named Editor-in-Chief of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) demonstrate that hard work, perseverance, honesty, modesty and abiding faith in God can lift the child of a nobody  to unimaginable heights in any career or endeavour. I remember all my teachers and mentors at this special moment. Let me dedicate this moment to Mr. Anthony Mbachukwu of Amoji Nenwe, who saw a certain promise early in my life. He kept advising me to keep going and never to give up.

Dear brothers and sisters, I know, however, that my best is yet to come. Therefore, the struggle continues.

Please join me to commend the initiators of the Who's Who project, particularly @Dr. CharlieMBC. Charlie has a deep knowledge of everything. I doff my hat for him. Ladies and gentlemen,  I look forward to buying some copies of the book to donate to two primary schools in Uhueze, Nenwe. I'll also pick copies for my friends far and near. May God bless every son and daughter of Nenwe, especially those of you here present.  May God bless you all.

Thank you.

Silas Nwoha,

Former Editor-in-Chief,

News Agency of Nigeria.

Charlie,
I'm just speechless. I've just been added and I really marvel at your intellect and ability to articulate these events and activities of the far past.  The benefits of these achievements are priceless to the present generation and posterity.
You have made me start  thinking of Nenwe having a Museum. I have no doubt you'll play great role if the idea materialises.😇
May God keep enhancing your memory towards these laudable goals.
Nick Chukwu.

I know that Nenwe is etched in me.

But I'm not originally from  Nenwe!
It was in your town that I had my first paid employment - an Auxiliary Teacher in the very first year of your Girls High School  (located then at Central School/St. Peter's Church. You guys assimilated me and I've tried to live up to that acceptance. The MBC brood led by their mother took me in and Ngozi, Pat, Bridget, Mary-Rose, Tochi and Edu seized me as their brother. Charlie was in Italy but wasted no time in taking me in.
I'll be soooo glad to learn that I wasn't added by mistake. If you remove me, I'll call on the spirit of my uncle Hon. James Nnadi who started St Peter's School in the 40s/50s to fight back.
Ulu Ejheee!

[10:48, 30/11/2024] Chijioke Ejike: Passively, I engage myself in some of your posts on history and literary-related contents with great zeal and appreciation for the knowledge you share without any cost but added value for the money we all spend on data.
Personally, I find your contents as latent guides capable of stirring ambitious thoughts in our present and future generations to pursue the trajectory of heroism. I believe that Nenwerians, by virtue of this initiative of "Nenwe Who Is Who" will aspire to engage in practices that can place their names on this tabloid of greatness.
You deserve overwhelming commendations for this selfless service to our people. Many thanks again, much as I can, I will remain supportive.

Permit me Manzi Silas Nwoha to congratulate you and to be joined in your wonderful Goodwill Message. You speak not only for yourself but also for me and so many other Nenwe people who made this First Edition of NENWE WHO IS WHO. The story of successful people all over world would confirm that most of them were not born with silver spoons in their mouths. So I join you to thank the Almighty God for the so many opportunities He has given me in life. It’s almost incredible that I who dropped out of Elementary 5 because of school fees would eventually rise academically to obtain a Ph.D and become Professor. I thank God for all the people He used to make me what I became.

Let me also use this opportunity to congratulate Chief Charles Chukwubike, the initiator of the NENWE WHO IS WHO project and also Manzi Silas Nwanya who coordinated the collection of the stories of the personalities of the list from Uhueze and played the major role in the publication of the book.

A SPEECH BY THE NENWE WHO IS WHO PUBLICATIONS COORDINATOR AND MODERATOR, CHARLES OKECHUKWU CHUKWUBIKE

A SPEECH BY THE NENWE WHO IS WHO PUBLICATIONS COORDINATOR AND MODERATOR, CHARLES OKECHUKWU CHUKWUBIKE ON THIS DAY, 1ST DECEMBER 2024 AT THE UNVEILING OF THE FIRST EDITION DEDICATED TO THE MEMORIES OF SENATOR (CHIEF) M.B.CHUKWUBIKE.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen you are all welcome to this remarkable and history making day: The presentation of the maiden edition of Nenwe Who is who.

THE BACKGROUNG:

Before the presentation day of the HISTOY OF NENWE TOWN, the author Senator Chief M.B Chukwubike read aloud to me half of the book and made me read aloud the remaining half to him. This exercise took us three evenings. He never told me all the reasons  for that but during the exercise I observed that there were many events, places and personalities  that were supposed  to be a book of  their own  and  I promised myself it would be realised one day and put in a big library.

Years and decades passed the personalities increased naturally. Updating the history book he wrote  also became very imperative .

Having worked   for many years in data collection in a county in Europe  and participating in their biannual historic and who is who update, I thought in 2020 to replicate the same  in Nenwe through a continuous  update that would pull our history and people out of  the oral history where they have been and gradually disappearing. Many people were enthusiastic about the project and I got as many as wanted involved in it, However at some point I observed there was little progress because enthusiasm and eager to work was high but knowing what to do was the essential and that was what we lacked , though everyone was good in their specialised areas educating the team on this novel way of documenting history and working on line  since I live overseas  was imperative at this point.  This dragged and delayed the work.

In 2023 after returning a couple of times to Nigeria I got a dedicated team of 8 people who were ready in the arduous data collection. I am happy to announce that today in my little Nenwe circle we have a handful of people who now understand the working principles of this system which is just the primary stage that is prelude to the archiving which is my or our next target.

Ladies and gentlemen here we are today with the work ready. However permit me to add that as I said earlier it is a ‘work in progress’. There are less than a 90 names out of the double that  were supposed to  be publish in this edition, there are just a couple of historical  events, personalities  and landmarks as against tens that  I wrote already. The publication was first come  first served and many contacted people are still to understand what it is all about therefore didn’t consent to their personal  information being published . It is well understood .They might by this first edition understand what I meant and they might appear in subsequent editions.

The presentation in this book is not uniform as it should be professionally but this will also distinguish it as the first edition. The arrangement is alphabetical and space allocated is not according to importance.

THE TEAM;

Mr. Silas Nwenya, Mr.Patrick O.Chukwubike, Ken.Ogbu, PhD, Chief. Godwin Onuh (Ezeife), Prof. Michael O Maduagwu, Fidel Nwabueze Ogbo,PhD, Surv. E Okorie, Mr. IKechukwu the Greatest Ude ,Cyril O Oleh, PhD, Mazi Clem Ebere, Nicholas Udeh Esq. Mrs. Kande  Daniel, Louis Orji,PhD, Engr Bismarck Orji, Engr Ken Mbah, among others (aguwa ndi oma aba l'iro).

I must recognize the contributions of these gentlemen and ladies who were always ready to source and transmit to me information and contacts when needed. I must remember Chief Camillus Igwebuike and Mr John Nwaru (both resting in peace) who in the beginning were very supportive and always listened to my questions and curiosities on phone. Most important is the home front where I am fortunate to have someone who has too much authentic heroic Nenwe blood of Chief Harrison Chukwumba (Ebili jiishi edje ogu), at some point I thought my wife Ndidi Harrison would have left me so that  'I marry Nenwe'  due to my exaggerated time and dedication to Nenwe projects but she is still holding forth just like my beloved sister Ngozi who in our everyday quarrel in everything, but  if I mention to her Nenwe is involved  she would pardon everything.

THE FUTURE;

As already mentioned  the  main aim is  to have  a virtual and  physical  cultural, historical data bank and library  where thousands of documents and graphics we have in the family library could be made accessible to the general public free of charges, a promise made to my Dad four decades ago; precisely on the day of presentation of his book ; The History of Nenwe town.

A portal and platform will soon be created where all the  historical information and actual  data could be sourced virtually ie. from any part of the world.

As this first edition of the book Nenwe Who Is Who is being presented and unveiled today simultaneously at Abuja, Enugu and virtually via zoom, I wish to thank you all  for  coming and  for  all your  support  I want everyone to see this as  a service  to humanity irrespective of your origin. I also promise to make available myself and experiences to anyone who may wish to implement such a program in their own communities.

There will be the books' NENWE TOWN unveiling program in between the Christmas 2024 and New year 2025 .

In March 2025 we shall have the general premiation day of  the personalities in this first edition  and the facilitators  by the Coordinator also in Nenwe . You will all be informed of the exact dates and venues of these two  events in  Nenwe.

Please a second favour after that of getting copies of this absolute first edition, is to kindly write any corrections, comment or suggestions through the email in the book.  Nenwe.whoiswho@gmail.com  or to mine chukwubike@gmail.com, I shall personally  reply you.

I thank God for the gift  of life and memory and  pray for the Grace  to still be with me and the team for a while . I end this with a conversation about my memory with my mom Magdalene Ekpete in 1997.

In a conversation I told her the name of the European doctor who used to treat me in the Awgu Joint Hospital when I was  a kid. She wondered how I knew her name . My dad went into his room and got his 1965 diary and confirmed the name was correct. My mom asked me the techniques and I told her something. The next day she asked me again what I said yesterday the techniques were and I told her I didn’t remember. In her typical way she said. “These are those who don’t remember what they ate in the night but will tell you the taste of the wine in the wedding at Cana.(Hahaha!!) May her soul and the soul of Bridget another one with super memory rest in peace.

Thank You for coming and for picking a copy of this maiden edition of Nenwe Who Is Who.

NENWE TOWN LUNCHES A GOVT APPROVED COMMUNITY SECURITY OUTFIT: by Chukwubike OC

The Nenwe town (in Aninri LGA of Enugu State ) comprising of 4 autonomous communities has after years of steadfastness in following the rigourous and stringent conditions and procedures of the Federal and state governments succeeded in registering , trainings and lunching of the NENWE SECURITY SERVICES (NSS).

The security outfit  which is fully funded by the community at home and in the diaspora was launched in January this year  but became operative from the first of July 2024. It  is  made up of  selected and screened men and women of integrity and capacity from the communities who were trained for months by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps  with the support of the DSS and other government recommended and approved security agencies.

There main duties are to keep the town safe from delinquents,  through close collaboration with the NPF and other government Security agencies, mediating in minor disputes, providing 'low level security'  during gatherings and functions, information /data management and assisting the police with them when necessary.

The whole town and other neighbouring communities were jubilant to see the successful take off of this long awaited project which is supposed to ensure their 'sleeping with two eyes closed' as the popular saying goes..

The pictures above were taken when they came to show themselves at the Orie market and other spots in Nenwe.

This report is not the official communique from the Agency or Nenwe Homeland committee but gathered reports.

Below is a communique from one of the community Igwe to all Nenwerians to support the NSS;

I write to congratulate the Chairman, AVM C.N. CHUKWU (RTD.) OON, Nenwe Security Services, The PGs, Nenwe in Diaspora and all the organizers on the successful takeoff of Nenwe Security Services.

Your efforts to bequeath Nenwe with a strong and committed indigenous security outfit is indeed a commendable one.

I urge all Nenwerians to identify with this noble formation to enable it assume enviable position.

May the Almighty God reward all of you.

EZINNE: A DEFTOUCH PRODUCTION

_"DEFTOUCH MOVIES" FORMALLY PREMIERES WITH  "EZINNE" @ THE METROPOLITAN CITY OF ENUGU_, *Sets Sights @ Hollywood* ... WITH A SUBTEXT: An Opening Salvo of Intent For Electoral Representation.

The countdown has been set rolling - with *deft touch* of innovation and exquisite style -  for the first all Nenwe unity event this year,  earmarked for Saturday, July 13, 2024, @ the metropolitan city of Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria.

That day at the start time of 4 PM, a born & bred NOL alumnus, Mr  Martin Okafor, or Emperor , doing business as  "DEFTOUCH MOVIES", a start up in film- making and movie directorship will use his flagship movie themed "EZINNE" to launch his foray into the live audience, cinematic platform.

As members of the NOL community we have been privileged to witness Mr. Okafor transformed his dream to the present reality -each of us can tell his story: he first crawled, and then initiated his tentative first walk steps in the realm of filmmaking and distribution, and now, he has readied himself and his team, to take on the next logical step in the career he seems quite equipped for right from  his cradle.

The boldness which he imbued into his preparation for this July 13 event, shadows the far reaches of his sight: *HOLLYWOOD*.

As a burnished NOL alumnus, conversant with the high standards; and, what it means to be a representative and _Cultural Ambassador_ ( his official job title at NOL) of a people, it has been a matter for conjecture,  if and when, he would choose to seek electoral representation of our people.

The NOL Platform Organization - which you all are part & parcel of -  as the ultimate mass mobilizer for positive changes in Nenwe, now knocks at your door to rally for this outing with our collective support.

The NOL Board would like to leave each one of us to choose the "how" and the "manner" to lend your support in the promotion of,  and guidance of this Nenwe event to a roaring success.

Thank you for doing us proud with your outstanding support.

Signed:y

CHIEF CAMILLUS IGWEBUIKE A NENWE ICON GOES HOME

Senator MBChukwubike with
Young CAMILLUS early 60s

REMEMBERING CHIEF CMO IGWEBUIKE 'ONUNEKWURUOHA (BY CHARLES O CHUKWUBIKE).

The death of Chief Camilius Igwebike was one of the deaths that  continue to signal to us the passing of an era in our family circle.

We grew up knowing the handsome  'Cammy' (our father used to call him simply that way) as   our fathers" relation till we grew up. Probably because both of them were  handsome and always well dressed.

He continued to be a house hold name even after his marriage to his very beautiful wife Miss Cathrine Nwuko. A marriage which our parents sponsored and honoured with thier good friends  from  the Parliament like the then Minister of Information Hon B.C Okwu ( see photo attached).

Chief Igwebuike  also continued to be a faithful  and sincere friend to our family in the community and politics. In 2003 HRH JS Ifenatu, Chief Inno.Aniobi,Chief A.N Ezeh etc were some of the arrow heads that piloted the Amoji ,Nenwe   and Greater Awgu communities at large  in  giving an unprecedented final respect to Senator M.B.Chukwubike .

He was one of the great pillars in Amoji community affairs.

My last phone call with him was on the 29th of December 2023 and quite regrettable our appointment  on Easter when I planned to return from Europe  to complete some particular discussions and stories could not be possible, however, in every situation  we give  glories to  God .

Chief Igwebuike was a great family man and community leader who continued to counsel  an mentor the growing ones till his last day.

In his profession as a teacher , he was one of the best head teachers in the division till his pension age

He was one of the best  lawn tennis players then  the 1960s  around  the division when I used to be  the ball boy for them. MB Chukwubike (RIP) my father was unbeatable and I remember  the day Cammy beat him at the St Peter's lawn in a singles he (MBC) gifted Uncle Cammy with a  Slazenger Tennis Racket like his own which  he promptly bought the next day from Kingsway  stores Enugu.

Those were days and period life in Nenwe was better than what we even observe now in Europe. The Irish missionaries and District officers even sometimes came down to the  Tennis court at St Peter's  or St Michael's Amebor.

On his wedding day with Hon Minister of Information BC.Okwu &
Senator MB.Chukwubike

Now we have the church on the court at St Peter's at and The Ogbodis reclaimed their land and built a home on that of Amebor though I learnt it was never donated to the church but  used on  an agreed lease  and never in the area given for the school and church.

May the soul of Chief Igwebuike and souls of all faithful departed rest  in peace. AMEN

From Charles O Chukwubike

NENWE NOSTALGIC [ THE METROLOGICAL GUAGES]

Once upon a time [1965] we had a pure and proper meteorological station at St Peter's Catholic primary school NENWE. Some other schools had the same.
At a mini round about between the main Old hall /church and the Ogwu eze block ,precisely where the church is situated now , we had on the circle a cock wind direction gauge with a metal cock on a pole (wind vane) showing the wind directions and a rain gauge which the teachers measured. Mr Paul Orji , Mr. EE Egbuaba of Mgbowo and one teacher called “Awgu North” were particularly in charge of this station and measurements.
The roundabout was adorned with beautiful flowers like bachelors buttons etc .

1ST QTR. NOL COMMUNITY DIALOGUE

1ST QTR.  NOL COMMUNITY DIALOGUE.

*_TOPIC_*: NENWE FOR PEACEFUL, HARMONIZED & _CAPACITY ORIENTED_ SELECTION OF COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP* : _THE STATUS QUO HAS FAILED OUR PEOPLE -  REPEATEDLY_.

HERE'S THE SCHEDULE:

RUNNING THEME:  *1ST QTR 2024 NENWE COMMUNITY DIALOGUE*

DATE: *SUN, MARCH 3RD, 2024*.

TIME: *5:00 PM, LAGOS*

VENUE: *ZOOM MEETING*

Further details of the program will be released in the coming days.

In our history, as a people and culture, we valued honor, honesty, hard work, wisdom, gallantry, mutually unqualified love, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among ourselves and our neighbors.

The history of our people, as passed down to us, also bears witness to the truth that our forebears looked for those defining characteristics in selecting some of their own for public service and leadership in the community from town criers, to the Pinnacle of the leadership rug.

The mantle of leadership didn't  always fall on the wealthy, the powerful, or the politically connected.

Those who came before us certainly didn't condone inappropriate ascension to leadership roles and deliberately snobbing the mandatory consent of our people.

It is common knowledge that this is the ugly status quo burdening & bothering the conscionable majority of our people - and it has been long-standing.

The NOL Board reasonably believes that at this time and in this age, Nenwe Community has endured a lot already, and that we - *all of us* - the Nenwe people, can and should come together to start the difficult conversation of how to restore trust; and therefore prestige,  to the community administration - at all levels.

Although our community may have suffered unthinkable losses in the tangible, and; in the intangible collective assets ,irretrievably, as a result, The NOL Board still believes: *"The Time Is Always Right, To Do What is Right."*

Thank you for being a part of the conscionable majority and in choosing to participate in this Community Dialogue this quarter.

MALACHY DAVID UFOT [ RIP】

A few of us may remember this man, *Malachy Ufot*. Malachy did his NYSC in Awgu County Secondary school Nenwe in 1979. We nicknamed him *Ette*. In addition to his services in County, he took the 430 pm news in Efik on FRCN Enugu Zonal office where he also translated news bulletins from English language to Efik and Ibibio. He was a jolly good fellow. He retired from active service in 2014 having worked at various FRCN offices across Nigeria. Unfortunately, he was kidnapped on October 15th 2023 and released on October 24th. The next day he gave up. Malachy will be buried this Friday in his home town. The entire Nigeria has become a graveyard. May he rest in peace.
